Detailed Planting Instructions

Iceland poppies prefer cool weather, so sow very early spring (as soon as soil can be worked) or fall in mild climates, in full sun with well-drained soil. Scatter seeds and press into the soil; cover only with a very light dusting (or none) since they germinate best with light. Keep the surface evenly moist; germination is usually 10–20 days in cool temps. Thin seedlings to 10–12 inches apart. Water regularly during growth, especially in warm spells, and aim for cooler conditions—heat can shorten bloom time. Avoid rich fertilizer; steady moisture and sun are the keys.
